I stopped visiting Egypt in2011 after an appalling time
walking through a seaside village (large elements of tourists there as
well)
I was hounded initially by two or three men but more kept
joining the mob, muttering obscenely, gesturing, tugging at me.
The
average age was about 25, many in their late teens, some in their 40's.
I
was very modestly dressed and wearing a hijab.
Some were the age of my grandson.
This harrassment is nothing to
do with overpowering sexual desire, it has far to do with making it very
unpleasant for women to be out and about on their own. It is a control
mechanism - 'women, know your place'
